Checks

by smitty1247 @ 2008-07-15 - 13:41:12

Had to go the grocery store over lunch to get things for dinner and lunch tomorrow. I left my debit card at home and all I had was my checkbook.

Got my stuff.

Went to the checkout line and when I went to pay I got the strangest look.

The cashier had never taken a check in the supposedly 2 years she has been working there and didn't know how.

She had to call over 2 managers, check my ID twice, give another form of Identification for a $5 check.

The manager had enough nerve to say to me "Well Sir, if you would use plastic like everyone else then..." I stopped her mid-sentence and looked her square in the eye and told her I'm not every F#$king one else. I'm me and just walked on out the store.

Lots of places in the uk don't even take cheques anymore. I don't even know where my chequebook is!

It's like that here too. Larger stores like Walmart (Tesco like store) take your checks and withdraw electronically automatically to avoid any bad checks. You can hardly find a restaurant to take a check.

That's the first I've ever heard of that.

I know that in the US the only legal tender are bills and coins. Places have a right to refuse service, however, if they sell goods to the public and service is offered, they cannot refuse cash as payment.

Hard to use cheques in New Zealand. Most people use them only to pay accounts by mail or in business. Few cheques use by private people now.
